Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions drivers ask us most about remapping, tuning and the software work we do across Kent.

01

What is ECU remapping?

ECU remapping is the calibration of the software that controls your engine. Manufacturers ship a compromise tune that has to cope with every fuel, climate and market, and a remap rewrites that calibration for your specific engine and how you actually use it. Done properly, it is a careful software calibration carried out by a professional, not a generic file flashed onto every car of that model.

02

Is remapping safe for my engine?

Yes, when it is done properly. Our approach is built on safe, proven and reliable gains rather than unrealistic numbers: dealer-level diagnostics before any tuning, a calibration written around your specific vehicle, and an honest word if your engine needs attention first. For the full picture, read our guide: Is ECU remapping safe for my engine?.

03

Will a remap improve fuel economy?

Often, yes - particularly on motorway-driven vehicles. Depending on the vehicle and how you drive, a calibration focused on economy can deliver around an 8-10% improvement in fuel economy. It depends on the vehicle and the way it is driven, so we will give you an honest view for yours before you commit.

04

Does remapping affect my warranty or insurance?

It can, so it is worth checking both before you book. Some manufacturers treat a remap as a modification that affects the warranty, and some insurers want to be told about it. We will always give you an honest picture of what a tune involves, but the definitive answer on your own policy sits with your insurer and your manufacturer, and we recommend asking them directly.

05

Can you remap my van?

Yes - van and fleet tuning is one of the main parts of the business, tuned for load-carrying, stop-start town work and long motorway runs. See our van and fleet eco tuning page, or the model-specific pages for the Ford Transit, Ford Transit Custom, VW Transporter, Mercedes Sprinter, Vauxhall Vivaro and Fiat Ducato.

06

What's the difference between a remap and a tuning box?

A remap rewrites the calibration inside your ECU, so the engine management system works from a properly calibrated map. A tuning box is a plug-in device that intercepts sensor signals to trick the ECU instead. A properly written remap is the cleaner, more controllable approach - and you can read the full comparison in our blog post: Remap vs Tuning Box.

07

Do you come to me?

Yes. Kent Eco Tuning is a fully insured mobile service covering Kent, Medway and Essex - your home, your workplace or your depot. See the areas we cover for the full list, or ring us if your location is not listed.

08

What happens during a mobile remap appointment?

Diagnostics come first, every time. A dealer-level health check confirms the engine is sound before any tuning work begins, then the calibration is written for your vehicle and finished with a road test with you. If the health check shows a problem that needs sorting first, you will hear that from us before anything else happens.

09

Do you offer AdBlue or DPF deletes?

No. We do not carry out delete work on vehicles used on public roads - AdBlue and DPF systems are emissions equipment, and removing or disabling them is against UK requirements. What we do provide is proper diagnosis and legal software solutions: we find the real fault, then advise the route that keeps your vehicle reliable and legal. See our AdBlue solutions and DPF solutions pages for how we approach each.
